Aspindale Kimdale

Post by Olly »

Just found an Aspindale 'Kimdale' which I had not heard of before - an 11ft hollow built Kennet Perfection type!

Anyone shed some light on this rod please?

Hi Olly,
I think I restored one last year for another tff member , I say think because we thought it was a Kirndale but looking again at the writing it could well be Kimdale.
It was a hollow built two piece with separate butt and the usual Aspindale quality cane. It felt very nice in the hand and I assume it was meant for trotting or float fishing for Roach etc.
All in all a very nice rod and quite rare I think.

Wal.

A pic of Hexapins restored rod, if you look at the writing you can see the reason we thought it was Kirndale.

If that doesn't enlarge enough, this may be better.

Very like the 10'6" Avondale with those time-consuming built up ferrule stations. Obviously made at the same time too, I'd guess that was built by Peter Aspindale in the mid to late Sixties.

Some interesting information. In 1961 p j aspindale [presumably that's Peter] became the Hampshire avon champion by catching 52 1/2lb using his Kimkdale rod.
I have always liked the Dalesman rods because of the lightness and quality of there tapers, most were designed for match fishing as you wont get very fatigued handling one of there rods for 5 hours or more.

I would love to find 52.5lb of fish on the Avon - plus a cheaper Kimdale to catch them with!

Yes that is my rod. I love it. Wal resurrected it from the dead. I think that is a good lesson for all. Aspindales are very lightly constructed and susceptible to delamination but not necessarily beyond hope.
