Yatesy's Underwater Lake?

Post by PondPikey »

Just seen this, could this possible be the lake that he talks of about going under the lake and looking up?

Very nice indeed.

where you find only elder trees, nettles and dreams. (BB - Denys Watkins-Pitchford).

Huh! I've been trying to get someone interested in this place for years and now it looks as though it has been included in a book of follies.

This place was no folly!

It was a house full of the treasures of the World!

The drawing by the then Mrs. Yates in The Secret Carp was a bit wrong. The glass dome does not rise above the water in the way she depicted...just the statue on top of it

And the fish aren't there anymore, though some surely remain. After a staff member was sacked for flogging them off, the then owner sold the remainder to Godalming Angling Society and to Old Bury Lake.

Fascinating place...it used to hold fishing matches under a more friendly owner. The current one just does a Mr. Burns and releases the hounds!

Classic!

We need a Traditional Fisherman's Forum Official Club Lake.

Lets all get our tents and occupy, it seems to be the way forward nowadays!
