Fred Catchpole rod

Post by OldAngler »

I have a 10ft 6 ins Avon type split cane rod with fully lined guides.

The badge / decal reads:
Fred Catchpole
Fishing Tackle
Green-a--es (partly worn off)
London N16

Does anyone know if Fred Catchole was a tackle dealer / shop, a rod builder, or what?

Many thanks, Old Angler

Just cleaned it up a little to find that the name is Fred Ashpole, not Catchpole.
Sorry!

According to one rose London in past times type website, this is the shop:

I think this is one of the two rod's that I gave Wallyboy Rob to give to you (for charity) last year? I wondered if you had managed to do anything with them, as I am certainly no 'restorer' :surrender:

Hello Lea Dweller,
Sorry, I do not know why.
In the PM I said that this rod is one and the same which you passed to Wallyboy Rob, and he passed on to me for refurbishment. As you originally requested, when I sell it 100% of the proceeds wil go to charity, either Ukraine or the Turkey earthquake appeal.

Many thanks, Rod Storey / Old Angler

That will be fine, I think that the Sealey rod was the better of the two, but if you can raise any money for any charity that is great! :Hat:
