J W Young River Specialist reel

Hi all. I have just purchased a J W Young River Specialist centrepin reel £399. I received it yesterday Thursday 9/3/23. I unpacked it from its box and was very happy with its looks. After going through the motions of using it I thought there may be something wrong when operating the click/check lever. I now have nine Youngs centrepin reels The effort needed to operate the lever seemed excessive, and also the lever pushing against the spring loaded part that holds it in place, makes a noise like you would expect the parts to ware away. Now I know I have not yet used the reel, but I felt I had to telephone Youngs. I talked to Chris and he assured me that the pressure was needed to hold the lever in place so as to stop it jumping out. I was satisfied with his answer. I would like to know. Does anyone else who owns a River Specialist (from new) have any information regarding the lever, and did you have thoughts about its operation ? Thanks.
