Finding Britain's Lost Fish (BURBOT)
Jack Perks Wildlife Media
"In this short film I go on a journey to find out about the freshwater cod species the Burbot which up until 1969 called the UK home. I head to Belgium where it still lives."

There a good podcast that expands on this - search for "the bearded tit" (nice that he doesn't take himself too seriously!)

I would love to have them once again in British waters.

Whilst they are a bit of a mystery, they are a predator... Would introducing another predator into the wild be good for already under pressure river stocks...? With Pike, Perch, Cormorants, Mink, Otters, Mitten Crabs, Signal Crays, Topmouth Gudgeon and Motherless Minnows already in the mix...?

Burbot are native and our native species have evolved to cope with the pressures of predation. We should be more worried about the spread of signals and mittens in the wider environment. Anyway its a moot point really. They went extinct for a reason, it wasn't entirely down to the actions of man. I think conditions and habitat and sub optimal and even reintroduced individuals may not thrive.
I have laid aside business, and gone a'fishing.

Yes, I think it would.
Predators eat other predators and it is all part of the natural Ballance of things.
Burbot are native to this country and should be here. I think a concerted effort should be made to reintroduce them.
This could and should be be carried out in certain selected sites, initially, and if successful, then widespread ( in areas where it previously existed) reintroduction could be carried out.
