Aspindale Dalesman "The Kimdale"

Post by AshbyCut »

My plans for a post Covid new angling season seem to be becoming more formed in my mind with this new addition to my Mancave.

Winging it's way to me is this 'match' style Aspindale's Dalesman "The Kimdale," which I understand to be an early 1950's rod (at least post 1949) example of the Aspindale's catalogue. I have seen photos of this rod for a few years now, and am delighted to find one in what seems original (if a bit over varnished) condition.

An 11ft. rod comprising 2 sections of hollow built split cane, with a separate 23 inch cork shive covered handle, I understand that it weighs in at only 10 ounces.

A bit like me ... it possibly could do with a bit of 'a spruce up' in future ... but I'm sure it will serve it's purpose straight 'from the box.'

Certainly looks an original beauty AC! Will the butt be cork over alloy tube?

Absolutely lovely!
From what I can tell from the photos it looks as though a good clean and a bit of a polish will revive it to a glorious patina and probably nicer than a full strip and re finish?

I did see this rod advertised, but as the description included a 'set' in one section I think it put a lot of potential buyers off! Quite a rare rod though, so worth putting some work into it! :Hat:

A very nice rod Mal. I restored one once and was convinced it was called the Kirndale.

Steve Boncey tipped me about 3 years ago that he was restoring one to sell for owner. I snapped it up straight away lovely taper and so light in the hand
