I had been looking forward to this day for weeks, angling from dusk till dawn trying to catch perch, zander and pike.
10 fishermen met yesterday morning to explore a beautiful stretch of the river Main in northern Bavaria.
Whereas the other anglers were all equipped with modern tackle, our fellow member Trotter and I added a traditional twist to the event.
To cut a long story short - despite beeing guided by one of the syndicate's bailiffs (who blanked), it wasn't the most successful day. I trotted a deadbait through many very promising swims without any sight of a fish, so around noon I switched to my DAM split cane spinning rod and a Mitchell 358, mounted a little lure that I had fiddled together the night before and caught this beauty at my second cast.
Later I caught his little brother on a vintage Mepps spinner - at least I didn't blank.
The most successful angler of the day caught 5 pike, two zander and a perch - the perfect predator tripple, but I caught the picture perfect perch!

Good luck with that, Trevor! I went fishing for two hours today, using spinners, my homemade lure and some soft lures. Perch didn't like any of it today. I caught an asp though. (You'll find information on this species here: http://traditionalfisherman.com/viewtop ... lit=Aspius)

Re: Picture perfect perch
They didn't like anything last weekend. I think it was down to a change in the weather and a northerly wind. Hopefully, by Saturday I will have a few new lures to tempt them with!
