Your thoughts gentlemen please
Two years ago, my dear friend Bernie, "god rest his soul" told me of a member that claimed to have caught a five pound crucian in our little pond, eventually I got a picture and said , no , it's a cross with something,
In our pond we have an old original stock of about twenty common carp with maybe five or so mirrors, we also have a scattering of bream perch roach tench and crucian, one pike and a couple of chub which washed in from a flooded river Trent,
A couple of weeks ago I caught the said fish and would appreciate your thoughts , thankyou.

Definitely a hybrid of some kind, the photo below is identified by the crucian expert Peter Rolfe as crucian/goldfish.
Here is some further thought:
Search for 'Crock of Gold' - the definitive book on all thing crucian.
Hope that helps.

Yes hybrid. Looks crucian and common carp mix to my eyes.

Top lip over bottom = carp/carp hybrid
Bottom lip protruding more forward than top lip = crucian/prussian

PS - still a nice fish though. If you had that on a float rod I bet it went like a rocket!

Is it just me, or does the top picture have a slightly bream like look to it?
Not that I'm suggesting they hybridize, just that it has that sort of look to it

That's what I thought. The head and body look breamy but the fins are wrong.

Certainly not a crucian but I see it as a goldfish x carp.

Re: Your thoughts gentlemen please
Thanks chaps , more please,
The fish totally confused me as I usually catch commons from this pool, it fought hard but not like a common, then when I saw it I thought bream, then I remembered the crucian hybrid,
It had the sleepy doe eyed breamness about it, with the sharpness of a crucian and the body of a common BUT the fins were as if they were left overs from a fin shop and just stuck on anyhow.
At five pounds , it's certainly a one off.

This is a great site with plenty of identification tips.
