Re: Baits for BIG rudd
I used to catch some cracking Rudd over 2lbs on sweet corn. Also maize is worth a try.
Not a fish was visible that first time I visited Beechmere; an utter
stillness brooded over the place and I felt the strange and sinister atmosphere which, so the story goes,
has been the cause of several suicides.’

Re: Baits for BIG rudd
If the water is full of rudd then any of the baits mentioned should catch, so to target the bigger ones I would re-set the float depth about a foot deeper if you are just catching smaller ones and a foot deeper more if that doesn't work, and another foot deeper etc. until you start catching big ones or find yourself fishing bottom. Also lots of bread mash with maggots in but fish a few feet away from the baited area. Hope you catch!

AC's post is a good point. Not tried it recently but I used to catch good roach on elderberries, so they should work for rudd too

Its all about location Bob and if you find them then spraying maggots is as good as anything I reckon.

Re: Baits for BIG rudd
I have just got back from a week in Ireland to finish the brown trout season. On Saturday I fished Lickeen Lough near Ennistymon,County Clare and whilst I did not catch any trout I got into a huge shoal of Rudd and caught 15 decent sized Rudd including landing with difficulty two Rudd at the same time one on on the middle dropper and the other on the point fly.I have caught a number of Rudd over 2lbs on the fly in Ireland on the fly.Have any other TFF members caught Rudd on the fly? I had intended to take a James split cane fly rod to fish with in Ireland but when I got the rod out of the bag it turned out to be a MkIV Carp Rod so the Rudd were caught on a carbon rod.

Casters, red maggot and small sized sweetcorn have been effective for me....

Bread Crust and Flake, Casters, Worms I would try these baits I think. You could play the numbers game and fish maggot on the drop?

Re: Baits for BIG rudd
Wish I had a water close by that held big rudd. I think I'd hang up the carp rods and fish exclusively for them. So beautiful, I don't think there is a more stunning fish that swims.
