Best looking carp

Post by Hovis »

What do you guy's think make a great looking carp? For me it's mainly the shape nothing with a pot belly thank you very much. Some examples of great looking fish in my opinion are the woodcarving from Horton church lake, Jordan from Hardwick/Smiths and my all time favourite Mary's mate from Wraysbury. I do love the really dark commons but they seem to be few and far between.
I have laid aside business, and gone a'fishing.

I think these three are superb - mainly for their colour and shape. but partly because I caught them all last year :Sun:

Wonderful Sir.

Lovely colours on them I am guessing the water they come from is quit clear as they appear to be quite dark.

Those fish are some of the best I've seen recently Julian. I overheard the owner of one of your haunts speaking about his 'improvements' recently. I instantly though of you. Such a shame, what's happened there.

Here's a fish from Redmire Pool that I caught a couple of years ago. One of my recent faves...

I was going to say lean, dark scaled commons, but Julian's pictures beat me to it

Julian and Gurn those are stunning fish. Really like the rich brown tobacco color on those commons.

Yep, I could happily catch those of Julians for the rest of my days. :Thumb:

Yours is lovely too Gurn, I should know, I've met her too.

Lean, dark commons do it for me. Those ones of Julian's are wonderful.

Some of my favourite carp were my own carp that swam around in my 'Inner Sanctum' pool before they were stolen a few years back. These fish I always thought were a lovely example of what we talk about and think of as English carp.

and one of the Mirrors.

Unfortunately they all now swim around in the pool next door. I was totally gutted after I lost my fish to poaching and after having the Inner Sanctum to myself for 20 years I finally let the lease go. I couldn't justify paying for more stock to suffer the same fate. It was so nice though to be able to take people as a guest to my 20 acre piece of paradise. The Pool wasn't 20 acre but the locked in wild land was and was an incredible place to simply sit and watch wildlife.

Sadly as is mans want and greed and jealousy at times I was raped of what I had.
