Substitute for Pearsall's silk?

Post by RobGoodwin »

Can anyone recommend a good substitute for Pearsalls? As a North country river flyfisherman (now residing in the East Midlands) I tie and use a lot of spider patterns (partridge and orange, snipe and purple, Waterhen bloa etc). These are traditionally tied with Pearsalls silk, which is very hard to get hold of these days. Has anyone discovered a good substitute? Thanks in advance, Rob

There's a company called Morus that has ( as we say in America ) picked up the ball and ran with it ever since Pearall's closed. The colors that I have seen look dang near the same if not the same shades. From what I understand, this company is in the UK.

There's also YLI silk, and a gentleman that you all may know, Robert L. Smith, recommended this brand to me.

Another is Ephemera silk. This may be easier for you to get.

Here's a site here in Colorado that will ship outside the USA. They carry Morus, Semperfli and Ephemera silk. I know what you're thinking. But if you can't find any where you live, I will be glad to try and get you some silk here and send it to you.

That's all I have, but like I said, it may be more convenient for you to get Ephemera silk from www.54deanstreet.

I do hope this helps you.
