Is this an exceptional perch?
This isn't my fish but it is Cumbrian, came out of Windermere. I've caught one myself that seemed to have more than its fair share of stripes. Anyone else ever seen a perch with TEN stripes?
Re: Is this an exceptional perch?
That just got me searching my photographs, all mine seem to have 6, although the sixth is fairly indistinct on some, very interesting Scott.

Crumbs, looks like some sort of hybrid. Maybe you've found a the new Zander, Scott!

Very strange striping, and the colouring is rather different, very gold around the face with more orange than red fins. Very lovely fish though!

The colouring will depend on the environment. I've caught big perch fly fishing on a rich lowland reservoir and their colouring is so bright that they look like the most optimistic illustrations in a fishing book. In contrast I've caught perch in gravel pits that have a bronze hue.

Not seen the like before but what a lovely fish
There are three things that improve with age: wine, friendship and water sense, and there's no short cut.

Thanks for all your input chaps...
I wouldn't know Beresford, I lifted the image from a facebook group I'm in. Never fished Windermere myself. Here's one I caught from a mountain tarn that seems to have 8 stripes;Beresford wrote:Do all other Windermere perch have lots of stripes?

Re: Is this an exceptional perch?
The only reference I can find of a ten striped perch is on an ice fishing page. The only suggestion there was that it may have been eating zebra mussels
That your Windermere fish had eight, it may be an anomaly of cold water venues. Pretty fish though.
