ASPINDLE AVONDALE

Post by John Harding »

Evening all,

I was hopeing members may be able to offer some advice, I have seen a rod for sale which is described as an Aspindale Avondale Salmon Fly Fishing Rod. In the photo' it does not look like a fly rod to me and I was hopeing someone out there could inform me what the Avondale was designed for, I notice in the Aspindale rod forum that one or two members have some experience with this model so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Regards,
John Harding.

It could be the name has been used on other rods....most of the post 1949 rods have 'dale' in the name, but the only Avondale I know is a 10'6", three piece light match rod with a hollow-built butt and middle section. It's a high quality rod with built up ferrule stations, meaning the ferrules are large and look a bit bulky but it's apparently the right way to do it and takes a good deal more time too.

Not a great pic, but this is one here with an extra tip section to take a quiver-tip....you can at least see the built-up ferrule stations:

Possibly the rod with the most handwriting on it ever, here's an example:

Nobby,

Thank you very much for your information, the writing on the butt section looks very similar to that on the one I am considering, I think I might have a go at bidding for it as I do like Aspindale rods.
Thanks again,
Regards, John
