River Don

Post by BendSomeCane »

here's a small shout for the once grossly polluted South Yorkshire Don. Once anglers joked that you'd die first from poisoning rather than drowning if you fell in !!

How different now. I've fished it for the the last 15yrs with moderate success.

Having heard of a few decent local barbel I trundled down to Kilnhurst for a day but the weather had different ideas by putting 3 ft in over 24hrs.

Anyway here's a few pics of my cane bending.

And here's what made me return. A report in the Rotherham Advertiser a few weeks earlier

I hooked and lost two fish the second one was a hefty barbel.

Looks like it's got a drop in it Andy! My best from the Don at just under 10lb.

There was a picture, but it appears to have disappeared.

It certainly did Sean.. But like our rivers it empties quite fast too.

I'm hopeful of a good fish before the season end should the weather stay kind

Mmmmm chocolate. Although the Don drops rapidly again. I fly fish the Don a fair bit and it’s really good to see brownies and grayling from most year classes. Certainly an improvement on a few short years ago.
I have laid aside business, and gone a'fishing.
