Peter Stone - Bream and Barbel
Hi,
There appear to be two different dust-wrappers associated with purported first editions of Peter Stone's Bream and Barbel. The first is a light blue cover with a line drawing on. The second has black and white photos of a bream and barbel on it with a green banner stripe running horizontal (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301080526472? ... 1423.l2649). The second version I describe is the cheaper version... My question is what is the definitive 'First edition'
Regards,
Mark

The light blue / grey dust-wrapper is the first issue.

Re: Peter Stone - Bream and Barbel
Thanks Luke for the clarification. But why the two issues and why the confusion??

Re: Peter Stone - Bream and Barbel
I don't know for certain but a couple of guesses. They may have printed too many copies and decided to remainder them. The publisher would then have wanted to mark the remaindered copies in some way so as to differentiate them from the full price copies and so in this case produced a new dust-wrapper for them.
Alternatively, the copies with the green dust-wrapper may actually be a second printing (perhaps in response to a large order from a book club or similar) and the publisher simply didn't state that it was.
As I say, those are just guesses and I don't have copies of both issues to hand to compare. Might be able to have a look next week at work to see if I can get any clues. Someone else may know the history better than me though.
