Allcock Aerial reels - Type identity

Post by Dave F »

I hope some knowledgeable person out there can answer my (probably silly) question:-

Where did Allcock get their numbering from and where could I find out re the different types?
I presume, that the “T1; T2 - T10” refer to types of reel.

I ask because a “childhood” dream has at last materialised, I have an Aerial older than me!

I believe, it is a 3.5” 7950 - T10. It certainly looks like the sample in the book mentioned below.

Reading Elwyn Attwood’s “Reels” book, in the 1935 Allcock Trade Catalogue, the 7950 is listed as an “improved model” having the ratchet operating from a lever mounted on the rim of the backplate and in 1949, the 7950 became the C815. As no reels were made during wwII (1939 - 1945) can my reel be dated as being made between 1935 and 1938 ?

Hi Dave, not sure if this will help but Bob Singletons book "The Allcock Aerial" A collectors Guide. lists them all here.

From Bobs book.
Not sure where the T numbers came from don’t think it’s an Allcock thing.

Thank you for the post. I tried to obtain a copy of the book, but wasn’t successful.

I think you will find that the 'T' number is Bob Singletons identification number (Type 1, Type 2 etc etc)

I had guessed, that T1 etcetera reffered to types of reel, but thought that it was an "Allcock" thing....
