??Traditional?? Reel

Post by Barbelbonce »

I was chatting to A TFF stallholder, was it LeaDweller? (apologies) at Romsey today about the earliest threadline/fs reel I ever owned. Needless to say, brain fade overcame me, but I have just - some 8 hours later, remembered the Brand: it was a Pinto....
Did anyone here ever own one? As a 7-8 year old I managed to strip the nylon main gear by practising my casting up at the park - it was the 3-4 oz lead that did the damage!

There is a Pinto advertising poster for sale on that site.
14 shillings and nine pence the reel cost apparently, although I’ve seen another ad somewhere about a model selling for 18 shillings. The first one mentions metal gears, so perhaps it was the second that you had as there is no mention of metal gears in the ad for that later one.
I recall using similar ones in my youth and I think there might still be some around here somewhere. But given that I was brought up with centre pins, I still prefer them, especially the wooden types. A lovely feel to them and there is the more direct contact with your quarry.
