Nice one, never had a carp that size but I'm edging closer. I patiently await my turn and hopefully I'll succeed using the 500.Ljm183 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 11:46 pmMy biggest carp on a 500 .............. 21lb 12oz.Martin(rockape) wrote: ↑Sun Nov 20, 2022 8:23 pm The biggest Carp so far on the 500 is a Common Carp for 17Lb 10 ounces.

Re: When were these made?
I think the 500 and other detachable butt Chapmans rods started in the early 60’s with the ‘new look’ range of less decorated rods with more basic fittings, no intermediates, cheaper ferrules. Price lead rods but always with good cane. When they stopped is a good question, they were still building the blanks and a few finished rods up to when the factory close, and John had enough blanks to have made them for years to come, if he wanted, or was able

Wish he had made a few more Fred J Taylor Roach rods - been trying to track a decent one down for a while. Missed one on ebay on Saturday - the bidding closed when I was talking to the boiler man and I missed it by a tenner...

There are three things that improve with age: wine, friendship and water sense, and there's no short cut.

I think they had the 2 piece rods previously this was for the 3 piece models.Rod Fisher wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 8:12 am Thanks Harry. Looks like Chapmans were as slow off the mark as Allcocks, both bringing MK IV style rods out around 1963 (the 550 and the New Superb).

Re: When were these made?
Chapman,s price list increase dated 19th November 1964. Which shows the rods made before that date including the 500.
