I really like this rod.
Is the tip ring supposed to look like this or has the liner fallen out?

Re: Sealed Vanguard question
I don't think the liner has fallen out, as the ring is much too bulky. I have no idea though, wether it's the original ring.
The Angler's Scout looks good on the rod!

Re: Sealed Vanguard question
I know!
It looks great doesn't it?
I think that tip ring looks like it's meant to be like that.

Re: Sealey Vanguard question
Simon, it looks like a Diamite tip ring, the stainless steel center is very hard wearing so less likely to encounter line wear. Some Sharpes spinning rods have them throughout.

Re: Sealey Vanguard question
I have a Sealey Vanguard (thanks to a good friend who helped with the purchase), and the tip ring is the same as all the others - lined. I think yours has been replaced. I'm pretty sure my rod was in original condition. It's not now, as I replaced the handle last week - it's due to be used on some pike fishing expeditions this winter.
EDIT:
Just found a (poor) photo of the tip ring of my rod:

Re: Sealey Vanguard question
Thanks, that's really good to know.
If the tip ring is a replacement, someone has done a cracking job on matching the original whippings.
Just need a blue/yellow float now

Re: Sealey Vanguard question
Damflask, Sir ... The 'Vanguard' isn't an Edgar Sealey rod ... it's from the Precision Rods stable, and it's full title is "R. Sealey's Vanguard."
This is the tip guide on my example ...
I've never seen a Precision/Bernard Sealey rod with that whipping colour combination or pattern, so I suspect yours has been totally re-whipped at some point in it's history, with a later tip guide. I believe it would originally have been whipped in the jasper twist usual for this marque.
(ps ... Bernard Sealey was Edgar Sealey's cousin. I hope that helps.)

Re: Sealey Vanguard question
Indeed - that's just like mine, AC. Even down to the peeling yellowed varnish! As I'll be finally getting around to using mine this winter I have sealed the odd whipping with some varnish. If I like using it I'll do a full refurbishment next year.
