Most Hardy rods have a serial number stamped on them, from this number you can work out the approximate date of manufacture.
Please see the .pdf files below for a list of approximate dates.

The most precious places in the English landscape are those secretive corners,
where you find only elder trees, nettles and dreams. (BB - Denys Watkins-Pitchford).

That's very interesting Mark. It makes my FWK Wallis rod May 1885, that seems a tad early to me.

According to this site the FWK Wallis wasn't made until the 1930's:

It is, apparently, a Canadian site and I am told it does have at least one error though.

Re: Hardy Rod Manufacturing Dates
I've been lead to believe that composite rods , ie: those of whole cane / built cane construction are particularly difficult to date accurately . .. Can anyone confirm this please ..

My rod is E21919. I was told at the Hardy museum, without the number information, that it was probably 1928.

Re: Hardy Rod Manufacturing Dates
My Hardy Wanless is H25743 which dates it to 1959 which sounds about right.
I have another version of the dating process which I will put up tomorrow once I have converted it to pdf.

E21919 is 1931 - on the butt cap? Probably the butt cap was made then and taken from stock & used in 1933 onward.
