Imperial to metric conversion

Post by BendSomeCane »

Chaps,

Im having a go at making a few bits and rather than buy the taps and dyes i thought Id try and obtain some threaded bar.

However would anyone know the equivelant metric size for our dear old 3/8 BSF. ??

thanks

3/8 is 9.525 in metric, 3/8 bsf is 0.050" pitch which is equal to 1.27mm so I would say the nearest metric would be 10x1.25 pitch.
Oh and be aware that bsf has a whitworth thread form ie 55 degree pitch angle rather than metrics 60 degrees.
I will now go take my bobble hat off, hope that helps :Hat:

I'm afraid the nearest metric equivalent is not interchangeable, ie. you can't mix the two. You could get some 3/8 BSF bar made up though or buy through ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BSF-Threaded- ... 417208eb3a

B.S.C, mild steel bar will rust very quickly and apart from looking awful, the items will be difficult to get apart once rust has set in  ..
I buy these for making items in 3/8 BSF, they are marine quality brass and very strong.

Good luck with your projects..

You can still buy stainless steel bar in 3/16ths BSF, BSC.
Just as you can buy nuts and bolts in it....though the taps and dies really aren't that expensive...it's all on eBay.

I can find some links if that helps?
