Oh yes.
I ordered my Merlin based on these prices back in 1997. Total price £445.
It is the only Barder rod I have bought new and was the cheapest.
His coarse rods are now £1600 and fly rods over £2000 and he has a waiting list.
2nd hand are often pushing £1000.

And I thought the RPI was bad!
That's, ...err ....some inflation.

Anyone know what the inflation rate would be from 1996 to 2013 - that way you can realistically see whether they are actually cheaper, more expensive or about the same now.

Using this historic inflation calculator

The £445 in 1996 is worth £707 now.

Yes, I still have my copy and a Barbus Maximus, which I have been using for a good few years.
Wonderful bit of kit!

I still have that one and a couple of the blue coarse fishing catalogues. He then reverted to a less fancy stapled A4 paper version.
Oh for those prices!
I went to see Edward the on Tuesday, he was saying how he started off charging £250 for a rod 24 years ago, then felt they had to put the prices up to £450 in the mid 90s.
Coarse rods are now £1700 and fly rods £2600. He still has a 2 year waiting list!
