Here is a great picture of Len Arbery and a big barbel, thank you to Mike Wilson for the picture.

Great photo indeed
Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

Re: Pictures of Len Arbery
Hello All,
The above barbel was the fish that clinched the Drennan Cup for me in 1990. It came from the Dorset Stour and weighed a tad over 14lb.
It is almost certain that this particular picture eminated from Ron Chant's Mamiya C330.
Now back to the 'really' early days:
I realise it is difficult to believe, but this truly is me, way back in about 1960; some time before meeting Bob Buteux and Bill Quinlan.
When first fishing with Dave Short, he introduced me to the Royal Military Canal, near Ashford in Kent. Here we float-fished for tench and bream on the far bank, using the lift method; and pretty successful and enjoyable fishing it was too.
Tackle included fibre-glass match type rods, and I think my reel at this time was an Allcocks Delmatic. And, yes, I've still got both.
Besties,
Len.

Re: Pictures of Len Arbery
Sorry about the quality of this, another early tench shot:
Taken about 1962, this is a self-taken shot of one of my very first tench from Wrasbury 1. The camera, placed on my tackle box, was prior focussed on the brolly pole.
Didn't, of course, realise my thumb was in the poor fish's eye!
Besties,
Len.

Re: Pictures of Len Arbery
Hello All,
This shot shows my fishing position on the left side of the point at Long Life, circa 1983:
The rods are home-built, on a hollow-glass blank Alan Brown sold as a 'Grafham Ghost'. Reels are Cardinal 54's and the Optonics are Bamford conversions, these angled inwards keeping the swingtips closer, ensuring small bites more readily detected
Besties,
Len.
