Dowel is not certain to be straight grained and a slight bit of cross graining can make it break very easily. As its not going to be original, why not make it easier and use alloy tube. A length of 12mm or 15mm diameter bank stick is perfect.

That's good thinking wal, but would I not lose the balance of the rod as the handle would be much lighter than normal, or should I put a piece of dowel inside the alloy tube?

Thanks

There wont be much difference in weight but yes you could add a little at the bottom end to better balance the rod. A definite improvement I would think.

:Hat: It looks nice too. Your female ferule on the second joint is reinforced whereas the standard one isn't. Personally I think yours is a big improvement making it so much stronger. :Thumb:
Thanks! I hadn't realised that the female ferrule is non standard but I'm quite happy to now know that it's an improvement on the original. I always consider the HT to be the rod I should have had as a schoolboy. I bought it to replace the glass fibre rod I owned throughout my teenage years and beyond but which was taken from my car a few years ago.

Just waiting on some Araldite to join the ferrule to the old bank stick, then the next job is to order the corks.

The reel seat feels a bit clumsy in my opinion.
I may replace the reel seat at some point though?
Hi Jeremy, is there any chance you could check that the length of the handle is 25.5 inch, and what is the handle diameter please.

Thanks
BB
The handle without the sliding reel seat weighs 113g
The length is 24.5"
cork dia is 21mm

I have Bobs HT at the moment and that is consistent with the above. :Hat:

Thanks Jeremy, 24.5 inch is one inch shorter than I understood it should be, but I'm not sure that 0ne inch will make much difference. The weight is more important I think for getting the balance.
