Abu Cardinal 40A

Post by JohnL »

I have just picked up a cardinal 40 model A. I've wanted one for some time now simply because I love the styling - typical Scandinavian, reminds me of an old Volvo, boxy but full of character. I don't however know anything about the reel in terms of performance, the drag and gears are very smooth and I was thinking of teaming it up with 6lb line for perch and chub (spinning/stalking), longer range tench fishing and light carp. I believe it's a bit of a budget model for ABU, will it stand up to a bit of abuse?
Condition wise I don't think it has actually been used and I'm hoping I got pretty good value at £25 including postage although I don't really know.

They are tough old reels John. I use my 444A(more rounded 60s Volvo) for carp and barbel. Yours will have a better clutch than mine as they improved these over the years.
