I now have 3 of these rods.
2 Octofloat deluxes - one fully renovated (finished it last week) (Christmas present for my dad)
One in need of renovation - the butt section has a small nick in it and the tip has come partially
delaminated, plus it has no rings - should keep me busy for a while

I also have a float caster deluxe, with an octopus logo, which I love. 12 foot whole can but, split cane top two. Currently stripped for a rebuild. I have caught some nice fish on it and it has a great action. Enough power to subdue big fish but sensitive enough to show ledger bites from minnows. So far it has netted me a couple of barbel at 10lb 12oz, a 6lb chub and a few 5lb tench.

Just finished re-whipping and varnishing my latest Octofloat. Photo to to follow this afternoon. My dad has just received his (couldn't wait until Christmas) so he decided to have it for his birthday, he is chuffed to bits. I think I need a break. Refurbishing 3 rods in about as many weeks is taking its toll on my eyesight and manual dexterity.

Just scanning a well known online auction site and found this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-Split- ... 4983673436

Looks nice and a good price at the moment. Certainly a better option than the one I have just completed, which has no bag, partially missing logo, no rings and a de-laminated tip. (still can't complain - it was free)

Now managed to get a few photos done, not the best quality

My fingers were not up to putting in 13 sections of whipping between the logos, so I stuck at 11

Thanks. I am all whipped out now. My eyesight, which was never good, is showing the strain. I need a break before tackling my Sealey Floatcaster Deluxe. So I'll work on constructing a landing net.

It would be interesting to see photos of the build stages of the landing net MGs.

I will keep a record. I have loads of ideas floating around in my head at the moment. I'm not sure how practical they all are, but I will take photos as I go along, even of the failures

I have used the rod and it performed well. A nice balanced feel. It was hard to assess its fish holding capabilities as the largest catch was a 1lb 2oz crucian. Nice to get it on the bank and use it, instead of writing about it and refurbishing it.

Now finished refurbishing my Floatcaster, (the sneaky last coat of varnish applied Christmas morning).

The rod has had a hard life, being my main workhorse for about 10 years. It was originally whipped in mid-dark blue, which seems to be a standard colour (I have seen several like this). However, I decided to go with garnet. I managed to find some Gudebrod Garnet and am pretty pleased with the results. I will give it a try tomorrow.
