Don't spend too much SK, they aren't very well made. Later models have plastic ratchet levers and arms that break as easily as the poor quality centrebosses!

The very earliest models have a sheet metal body, rather than a cast one and are consequently a bit lighter.

Considering they fatch as muchg as a Speedia these days, I know which I'd rather own.

:? Actually I quite like them, or at least the Mordex Major (without the spokes). Yes, the centre boss is a little on the fragile side, but as a reel for general barbel and carp fishing I think they're better than the Speedia.

If the center boss is intact and you want a good large diameter reel then give one a go. But worth as much as a Speedia? Hmmm..

I sold my Speedia by the way! :chuckle:

Evert, I still get occasional requests for Merlin centrebosses. Do you know if anyone over there is still making them, ..and if so do you have their details?

I have to say that you are presenting them in far better condition that Mordex ever did!

Vosseler who are German manufacturers of reels can supply a centre boss in brass for the Mordex Merlin. Very reasonably priced and good quality.

I have three Merlins - all loaded with defferent line strengths - and they are something of a favourite with me, possibly due to links with the city of Sheffield. An idiosyncratic workhorse of a reel.

Thay are popular reels with Germans, hence the brass centre boss made by a German firm. You can contact them here - Vosseler Sales <sales@vosseler.com> and you will find them very helpful and efficient. Here is a link to their website as well. http://www.vosseler.com/index.php?id=vo ... ishing&L=1
