Hooks for floating crust

Post by TincaTinca »

I am seeking to identify a hook to use for floating crust. a long time ago i purchased a box of 100 hooks. these had a nice wide gape and were of wire? i have ried to puchase these type since in various tackle shops but they seem bemused. as i recall they were light and the size was 6s or 4s but were brilliant for crust and bread baits.

I use Drennan Wide Gape Specialist hooks for my surface fishing, and most other forms of fishing too. I use size 4 & 6 for crust, and also for perch fishing.

Only £1.20 per pkt and would be my recomendation.

I use either Korda mixa hooks or Korda wide gape

I use Raptor ESP T-6 barbless in sizes 4, 6 and 8 but have just purchased some of the Drennan Wide Gape Specialist hooks and will be trying those out this year.

Slightly crazy as it sounds, the Nash Fang Twister, - designed with boilies in mind, - is really good for crust fishing - razor sharp and wide gape;goes in well and stays in, usually. For bottom baits, I tend to use Korda Kurves, but for pop-ups and surface use - I've really come round to "Fangs". I used to use Drennans, but haven't for about a year.
