What is this centrepin?

Post by Frogmore »

Hi,

In my quest to return to fishing in the traditional way I have just bought this reel :-

Can anyone tell me what it is?

Colin.

Well if the card/ paper it is resting on is the packaging then it is ' double sided and battery operated'

It looks like it might be a one-off home-made reel, though some of those reels were not strictly made at home, rather than at work when the boss wasn't looking.

An awful lot were made on the night-shift at Rolls Royce in Derby.

Alledgedly.

i agree with nobby a factory piece ,but i have seen at least another identical reel ,i've a picture (another front view) of it but no info on it .i know the stantonesque reels produced at the rolls royce factories at hucknall and derby used open ball race bearings ,and are pretty robust reels ,the usual arrangement is too lock the spool inplace via the rear screw fixing the spindle/axal to the back .

but these reels seem to faviour a latch ,operated by the little knobb on the front of the spool i presume ,to facilitate spool removal .but not having had access to one i can only guess .

This is very intriguing - I love surprises!

The seller doesn't know what it is but it comes with this Grice and Young Avon. I won't know exactly which model until it arrives.

The unknown reel seems to be quite a big'un!

the g&y looks like it could be a avon royal /avon crown ,but being a g&y it could be one of six verious models .

the big reel would fit in with the factory/rolls royce reels as they're usually 5"-6" in size ,most common sizes being 5¼" .
