I'm out of touch...

Post by Haydn Clarke »

Some time ago, on a now locked thread, Chavender posted a picture of a new reel soon to be released by Kingpin.

It's this one here:

A very fine looking beast, I think you'll agree.

Now I'm not much taken with most modern looking c'pins but this one I think is absolutely scrumptious. I emailed them today to ask about the availability and likely cost. It's going to be on sale in Febuary, but, and here's the rub, at an eye-watering five-hundred spondoolies, which, I'm sad to say, has dampened my enthusiasm somewhat. £500 is proper, bona-fide, hand-built Chris Lythe, Aerial-esque type reels, not Range Rover alloy wheel look-a-likes. At £300 I'd have said it was very nice and good value. At £350 -£375 expensive, but nice and probably worth it.

But five hundred quid?

I suppose comapred to EB's it's good value but as the dragons would say.... "For that reason, Im out"

Beauty is, of course, in the eye of the beholder, but to me that is just plain ugly!

Funny you should draw a comparison between these reels and EB's one......

Guess who makes the latter :-)

Which might explain why Arnolds think their reel new is worth so much?

Personally, I suspect you can sell a few reels at a certain profit......or you can mark the same reel up so high in price only the very rich buy one and actually make even more profit.

But it's still the same reel.

I'm with Davyr on this one. Though to be honest I've yet to see any modern design pin that really floats my boat.

It has got a touch of the Pimp's Lowrider about it, hasn't it?

I wonder why they called it the Zeppelin?

Not everyone has good taste, mind you:

its a ringer for the new lamborghini supercar alloy wheel, cant recall the name of the car , but its the one that was modelled after the stealth bomber

sorry dont like it, nor the price, i wonder sometimes if manufacturers of reels are trying to make them rare simply by making them expensive so there are less of them about? £500 is lythe money!!!!

Oh the humanity!

Its a pimped up, mass produced, tasteless piece of bling made to attract magpies........

in my ever so humble opinion

Far too bling for my taste.

I love my Youngs pin. At £130 brand new on ebay I can't see the point in spending serious money UNLESS you are buying a Lythe, Carter or Witcher.
