Rockape wrote: Sun May 05, 2024 3:23 pm You do have some wonderful reels there Woodbilly, thank you for showing them to us. And I love that you add the stripdown photos too (brave man!).

I also have a Pflueger Pelican like yours, which was previously owned by our own Russell Howard Brown here, and yes, that rotor oscillation threw me off a bit when I first tried it out.
I love restoring these old reels.
Many I've done, worked fine when I got them, but I've just always had a thing about disassembling mechanical items since I was a kid.
Can't help myself. I love seeing how things work. Lol
I completely get where you are coming from; I've restored (refinished) a few old reels myself now, mainly Mitchell half bails, and a few one off's of other brands, but I also love tinkering with the mechanics (nothing I like better than to be sitting at my workbench with a pile of reel parts under the inspection lamp....used to be motorcycle engine parts ..lol!).

I'm not as brave as you though, and the work you have done on that Hardy Altex is outstanding!
I have an Altex No.2 MkV myself, but the thought of dissasembling it makes me shudder. My utmost respect to you sir. :Hat:

Thanks! I hammered the nickel to convex its face outward and added a back to it, in order to stand it off from the reel body and give it depth vs. just a flat nickel fastened there
I'm weird like that. Lol

I'm a big time Pflueger fan myself. :Thumb:

As you may see from my earlier post, thanks to Russell Brown, I am now hooked on Pflueger reels too, particularly the non-free spool 'knucklebuster' multipliers like yours.

And here it starts:
