Is this the original tip ring for a Chapman 500?

Post by Tonytoned »

Hello Everyone

Is this the original tip ring for this particular rod, its not the deluxe, just a standard Chapman 500. Obviously time has aged the tip guide, to me it looks like it has been on the rod for quite a while.
All help would again be very appreciated. I thank you.

Strangely enough I bought a 500 for a friend a few years back, it was in mint condition and came with exactly the same tip ring which surprised me as I’d never seen one like that before….

Yes, that was the style of ring fitted to the standard 500.

Chapmans in order to be more competitive compromised on their fittings. The tip is a classic example. However, the cane and build are first class.
If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.

Actually I looked at a few pictures online with very same tip ring. Thanks for your help.

I am sure knowledgable forum members are correct in their comments above.
If you want the definitive answer, John Chapman is a very helpful man, and I am sure would respond to your question (as he has in the past to mine)

It certainly is one of the original pattern. Good to see it. They have been replaced on many, many 500s.
