In Praise of Fallon’s Angler

Post by Timothy Claypole »

Any day now I shall receive my fourth subscription copy of Fallon’s Angler, and I can’t wait. There is nothing not to like about this beautiful magazine: the content, the quality of the paper, the range of contributors, the absence of product placement and commercialism. If there is a downside, it is that I feel the need to ration out my reading of it so that I don’t complete it in a couple of sittings. I suppose it’s a healthier and literary version of chocolate digestive biscuits in a sense!

As an angling man who lives and works with and by words, I find the artistry with which Garrett Fallon et al handle the subject matter refreshing, inspiring and encouraging. Frankly, in a world where language is often dumbed down, regressive and “McDonaldised”, I eagerly anticipate the quarterly arrival of what for me is an angling literary feast.

If you have even a slight leaning toward art and literature along with your angling, I’d strongly encourage you to seek out a copy or even subscribe. It’s a meagre price to pay for such good quality and enriching material landing on your doormat every three months.

Wishing you all a peaceful and fulfilling weekend,

TC

Fallon's angler is an excellent magazine. In essence, like Waterlog, but better. To quote Timothy Claypole " an angling literary feast"
Garrett Fallon and his team do a very good job.
Top quality writers and superb photography.
Always a little bit excited when it drops through the letterbox.
For anyone not familiar with this magazine, I would urge you to take a look.

All the best.

I can only agree with everything written above. It is just about the only modern angling publication that I bother with these days. I can also recommend the podcasts which I especially enjoy on a slow day by the water. :Hat:

And it's a thumbs up from me too, for this lovely publication. I rarely buy magazines these days, but if I do normally flick through the whole thing in one sitting. Fallon's Angler I make myself eke out to one article per night before sleep, to make it last longer.

Podcast, you say? 🤔 Off looking I go.

It is indeed a wonderful publication although I have to confess that I haven’t purchased a copy now for a couple of years. May I point you in the direction of The Piscatorial Raconteurs (found online and free) published bi-monthly to supplement your reading….?

Go to the website, there are a few nice youtube videos on there as well although the music on them may not to everybody's taste. :Hat:

My parcel should be arriving today from Fallons Angler.
A few years back I brought issues 1-6 from a forum member and now I've ordered the whole back catalogue to bring me up to date!
With my limited time this will take me yonks to get through as I'm going to start back at issue 1
