A Little Gem.

Post by GreenFrogs1 »

I recently bought a very pretty little two piece fly rod. Called a Little Gem, it's a very pleasant little rod. Ideal for fishing our smaller English rivers, at a guess a 4 weight. When I've looked on the Internet, I find it classed as a brook rod. I was wondering if anybody might be able to enlighten me as to what exactly a 'brook rod' is?

Many thanks,

F

Many years ago, I had a Little Gem. It's a delightful rod. I used it to fish the Anton with dry flies. I changed it later for a Hardy Phantom. Brook rods are for small streams. I used a roll cast when using the Little Gem on a tiny river in Shropshire.

I have a catalogue somewhere which calls these smaller lighter rods Brook or Ladies rods.
They are obviously intended for smaller fish in brooks or streams.
I have a few similarly very light spinning rods by various makers. Intended for small trout and lines of around 2lb. They are all delightful rods to use on waters containing smaller fish.

Wal.
