This is what I use with ABU 66 & 77 reels when fishing for fish that 'run' - carp - silure - pike and perhaps barbel and tench. It is not a necessity for many species of fish.
Been there, done that, still do sometimes. Did ABU ever make a metal baitrunner?

Exactly what I found Dave. I bought a pair and somehow didn't notice it at first, but the 'sloppy' feel of them soon became apparent and spoiled my enjoyment. Dreadful - they had to go!

I had one of those reels. Not very good and sold it on the Bay. Also had a Penn baitrunner which was very good but garishly loud (colour wise)
