I find my dremmel with a cutting disc is the best way of cutting the norfolk reed, it goes wrong now and again but not enough to bother. I also use the cutting disc to level the ends of the cut reed.

Your floats look pretty authentic. When I made reed floats I use balsa dowel as filler just as the base, and each segment was chosen to be tightly fitted into the next. I did post my method some years ago, and if you can find it you'll be sure to find some very useful information on cutting etc. which will help you to produce sections as small as 10mm. The secret is to use a fine Japanese razor saw or a fret saw, and saw each section after fitting into what would be the middle section.

Very desireable
