Grease?

Post by The Tuesday Swim »

Gents, Its time I replaced the grease on various reels, mainly Mitchell's and Abu's.
Can anyone recommend a good grease?

I've been happy with a basic car mechanics grease, such as Castrol LM. Though I do sometimes then add a little 3-in-1 Oil or Garry Mills' 'pin oil' to the finished reel to thin it and make the reel spin easier.

Hi Nobby,

I'm looking for grease like LM but not pin oil as it's too thin for internal gears.

Same as Nobby, though I use a touch of Bisley Gun Oil ... "a light viscosity mineral oil" with a "unique rust inhibitor".

Bisley gun oil is ok, but in Mitchells a good quality machine grease is the one I go for. In altex's I go for the gun oil and on pins trombone slide oil is the poodle's particulars!

Slightly off thread, but is graphite an option for pins?
I just wonder as oils can attract dirt, wether a dry lube was a goOd alternative?

in my opinion the best reel grease bar none is Quantum Hot Sauce - you can even get it from Amazon now.
