Creel info please

Post by LaurieTheLedger »

Morning guys and gals

Quick question. I recently acquired a lovely condition creel (seat box type) which looks circa 1960’s.
Ok .. on the lid there are 4 led strips attached into the wicker. They are obviously meant to be there so can anyone advise what the purpose of them is? I was originally guessing that maybe they are to strengthen the lid for when sitting on but I’m now head scratching over it.

Thanks
Laurie

Led's in the 60's?
If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.

If they are on the lid, could they be used for holding on a padded top / cushion.
I know from many years experience that sitting on wicker for any length of time can be a bit of an uncomfortable experience.
Just a thought.

All the best.

It was a joke.

LEDs - definitely to see his seat in the dark!

After all they go on the rod - landing net - indicators - etc!

Ok being dyslexic I’m not the best of spellers but it appears the LEAD strips are definitely part of it.

Maybe put there to sink the basket if it was being soaked to tighten up the wickerwork ?

Best I can come up with, you certainly would not want to be carrying needless excess weight around .

That reminds me of a story I once heard about Peter Stone. Apparently he rarely checked through the tackle in his creel, and a couple of 'mates' put a brick in it. It was a while before he discovered it. I might have some of the details wrong but I think I've expressed the gist of it.
