Trotting floats....

Post by BoltonBullfinch »

When I was on the Wharfe a couple of week ago I sometimes had difficulty viewing my float as it passed from shade to dappled to light, so I decided to try and make a float that was easier to see as it trotted downstream. These are the Mk1 version and they will be given a run out when the rivers up here lose about three meters of water.

I could have done with one of those a couple of weeks ago, nice looking floats :Hat:
I resorted to slipping a largeish black float rubber over the tip of the float to aid visibility, not ideal but it seemed to work.

There are guys on here that can turn these from a piece of Balsa and they do a lovely job for Grayling on slightly boiling water. I always go back to Peter Drennan despite the non traditional look appearance

I wouldn't mind a 6g Balsa version; they're perfect for livebaiting.

I use black floats a lot. A Keith Arthur VHS I was bought, taught me this valuable lesson. They don't catch anglers as well though.

The MKll version will be black domed, I'm just waiting for the balsa to arrive.

Thanks

I usually use an Avon float with a banded black, white tip. It shows up in contrasting light well for my eyes.
