Nice video. The book is a great read as well.
I’ve been able to see the great work they have done working with some of the Farmers/Estates on the Avon.

Not all farmer’s are bad (tin hat time)

Did anyone notice the Angling Times Kingfisher Guild Badge on the side of the gentleman's hat in the wheel chair!

All I've read of the ARP has been very positive. Well done to them and all involved. These projects show true anglers as the real stalwarts of aquatic conservation. Its a shame government/ tax funded bodies cannot do the same

I too have that lapel badge - plus an awarded silver & green one, Grade III, for specimen fish.

The ARP book shows how it could be achieved. Loads of big roach multiplying, mostly in the lower Avon now.

Well the book may be that to some - - but it is also an inspiration to others trying a similar thing elsewhere!

I think there is a factor worth considering with regard stocking.

Continual restocking with farmed fish in a depleted habitat does little other than create a predator imbalance. But by taking eggs from the river itself, the genetic strain that has evolved within that specific environment is logically going to have a better chance of survival when placed back there. The physiological differences might not be obvious, but given the likely mortality rate even a handful of sexually mature survivors could make a difference.

For me the most telling aspect of the ARP was the success of the spawning boards. The fact that roach would so readily and instantly utilise a completely artificial spawning substrate points to a severe issue with existing natural options.
