Many different rods are claimed to MkIV on that auction site. Again many are not and range from 3 section float rods - sea rods!

Surely MKIV is a trade mark?

MkIV may indeed have been a trade mark, and people may list whatever on the Bay of Plenty and label it as such, but the idea is MkIV and such types (be it to the original taper and hinge, or not)...10' ish, designed to be sold as a carp rod, built cane, 2 piece (forgot to mention that!)...it's a bit of interesting fun, rather than a treatise on the definition of a true MkIV.

Amongst my collection of MKIV’s is a J W Aitken Superflex 10 foot Carp Rod

Aitken’s Superflex rods where made throughout the years with the earliest being split cane and the later versions fibreglass.

My version is the split cane version of the MKIV and it is one of my favourites.These were often mentioned as being the poor mans MKIV but that does not do them justice. It is of similar taper dimension to the B James MKIV but a lot more responsive and when you check with a digital calipers ot micrometer you can see it is marginally more pokey, plus “dark steely cane and spiral nodes” to die for
