The Burbot
The Burbot - In Search of Britain’s Rarest Fish
"John Langridge takes a look at the species from an angler's perspective.
The burbot is a curious thing - the most famously extinct fish that once existed in British rivers. Or so we thought . . . The dream of finding a burbot in England is still alive, even though an authentic capture has not been verified for many years. There are anglers even now trying to reintroduce the fish to its former habitats. "

Re: The Burbot
That's certainly a very interesting book! Maybe I should order a copy.
Only there's no chapter on how to catch burbot on cane ...
The weather forecast is just about right. A week from now, the water might be perfect for some burbot fishing ....

Re: The Burbot
I watched an episode of 'Alaska the last frontier ' with my lad this morning whilst waiting for the rain to let up a bit.
The folks were stocking up their fish larder for the looming winter, the main target being lake trout and catching some large, powerful fish. What was interesting was that they were also catching sizeable burbot right next to the boat. As they drifted they were spotting them in the shallow clear water and dropping what looked like a 'muppet' rubber squid right on their noses which was enough to induce a strong take.

Re: The Burbot
So now you only have to go to Belgium and catch your first ever burbot! If the weather there is similar to what it's like around here at the moment, the conditions should be just about right. Rising water levels, low water temperature, ... the burbot will feed!

Re: The Burbot
I have a vague memory of a rule on the back of the Yorkshire Water Authority fishing licence, requiring that any catches of burbot be reported.
Did I imagine this? If not, was it a rule in all the regions, and when did they stop including it?
