Crack"Contact"400.
Hi guys,
here are two images of my lovely Crack 400 (called"Contact") closed face reel from France. My Dad bought this for me in the 1970s. I no longer have its box, but it came with a nice felt drawstring bag which I still have and the instruction leaflet.
Admittedly it is a rather strange looking reel, very well made, lovely to use and very smooth. Has and adjustable drag"knob"on the left ahead of the handle, and a supplementary drag operated by your forefinger.
It is also v.light; just under 11 ozs.
Hope you find it of interest, Fred Towns in the photo; I'm sure he's using one.
John.
P.S photo of Fred is from one of the first fishing books I ever bought, by the great Peter Stone:"Teach Yourself Coarse Fishing", (chapter on Carp by Fred J. Taylor), bought in 1969 - you couldn't have a better mentor.

I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

If only they'd made a southpaw version!
Many reckoned it the very best semi-closed face reel for trotting. It does rather contradict the notion that functional efficiency begets beauty - in fact, it looks as though the designer's day-job involved the sort of gear usually pulled by tractors - but one very seldom comes up for sale - not while the original owner is still able to clench a fist around it...
