New Angles on Coarse Fishing

Post by Troydog »

By HGC Claypoole. Another wonderful tome from the past. I found it in Hay on Wye yesterday. There are so many wonderful past angling writers and they always have something to teach us. Had some roach on the river this afternoon - hemp, tare and corn. Magic !!
Trouble is, the fish just don't read the books......

Yes I've read one of his books, not sure if it was that one? He also has some chapters in the Art of Angling trio by Caxton.

Great stuff Catfish.017 ! Absolutely nothing quite like finding these dusty old books on the shelves of second hand booksellers. I went to an angling fair at Redditch a few years ago and it was stuffed with lots of special angling books, like ‘No Need to lie’, but I wasn’t interested. I’d rather search out my own books. I’m the same with fish really….

I agree with you Troydog, I love to search the Angling and natural history sections of independent book shops.
You never know what lurks amongst the shelves.
And the smell, ah, the smell of old books, it's only matched by the smell of canvas camping gear......

I can thoroughly recommend Wilfred Gavin Browns books My River and Some Leaves on a River, real 'grassroots' wartime angling.

I found Wilfred Gavin Browns books My River, also Anglers Almanac which contains lot of natural history, a nice read, probably as they do reflect on fishing during World War 2

And with lovely illustrations by Reginald Lionel Knowles throughout the book
