Adcock Stanton spool removal, and handle

Greetings O wise ones.
I need help please, with advice on how to remove the spool from my Stanton? I have removed the centre cap, see photo, and I thought the spool would just then pull off. It won’t.
I want to clean it and to investigate the funny noises coming from it when the check is “on”

Also, I have managed in my incompetence to lose one of the handles together with its mounting post. Can anyone help with sourcing a spare?

Remove the slotted nut on the backplate and withdraw the spool complete with spindle.
Then using a suitable drift, knock the spindle through the drum from the front face.
The bearings and spacer will knock out from either side.

Unless you are very careful when removing the old bearings, you will probably need to order new bearings. They are very cheap though so it worth putting new bearings in while you have it stripped.

If you get stuck and would like me to do it for you just let me know.

I cant help with original handles but if you can measure the holes in the spool face I might be able to find you a pair of fly reel cups, spindles and handles in my box of spares? Are the holes threaded?

You may wish to leave the handle off completely. My Stanton has the usual two handles but after a couple of years use I wish I had bought the model with no handles, which I think was available when I bought mine about 25 years ago.

My Leeds has no handles, (it never did), and works like a dream.

I agree with that - with a proviso - the fish you are catching are not big or even huge. I use both - with and without handles.
