Absolutely brilliant book Mark - I'm sure you will agree when you have read it.

He is the sort of angler who made me realise that I can stick with simple methods and tactics, still catch very good specimens of any species. I found it fascinating that he generally only fishes the margins or fairly close in and catches most of his fish on bread - because that's what her prefers to use for bait.

It should be a fascinating book. He was tragically struck down with a form of meningitis and is now wheelchair bound and struggles to do much for himself. He is Prof in the GSC.

The book arrived this morning and I have already read the first three chapters. What a lovely book this is, I can't seem to put it down, it's great.

Try the Medlar Press site. Expect to pay around £28 + P&P. It is a good read, with nice drawings by the author's son.

One of my favourite books - simple, unpretentious, atmospheric and very entertaining. But then Prof is my very dearest angling friend.... It is a lovely read and I would recommend it to anyone with an anglers soul.

Recently bought MW's book and have instantly begun to re-read it. Any book that requires a re-read counts as a quality book; too few books over the last 20 years seem to merit a re-read but MW's penned a really delightful work. The simplicity with which he fished (very successfully) is enhanced by the excellent way he writes. It's clear MW is an educated man from his clear, enthusiastic, descriptive style. The happiness he gleaned from his fishing is evident on every page. Oh, and the idea that in one's angling teens, one might receive as gifts from no less a person than Richard Walker in the shape of a Mk 4 cane rod (kit) and landing net must have been one really stunning moment!
