A few stunning roach

Post by Lime&Flint »

A small selection of river Wensum roach caught in Jan 2020. Apologies for the lack of trad in this particular photo but really it's just to illustrate how waiting for a mild spell before going fishing can really pay off, this day was around 8 degrees. All of these roach were caught in consecutive trots of the stick float down a favorite glide within ten minutes of each other. Although I never usually retain fish I did feel the need to in this instance to try and prevent the shoal from spooking in such a small/narrow section of river. They were kept in the river in the cold well oxygenated water and only for a very short period of time. I've not been able to find them again the last couple of times I've been out but it's been cold of late. I'll keep trying

That is dream fishing and beautiful fish, well done.

Thank you, yes lovely reel. I'd been going in to the tackle shop for years and always asked to hold the only centre pin the owner had (this one) One day I went in and said I'd like to buy it, his face was a picture that I'll never forget, he was beaming. That was 20 years ago? The shop was tackle box in Kings Lynn

Many thanks for the comment. If they could bottle that "roach feeling" I think it would be a best seller! Let's hope they continue to gain a stronghold in the rivers again
