I have a feather from one of her costumes. Don’t ask!
Wondering if I should make a float from it?

I have 2 G & R reels - one at each end of the scale - 3" Avon Gypsy and a Big Piker!

Please put a word in for me Bob (I assume you have Rita Hayworth's mobile number too)! Cane, it would be sacrilegious to make a float from that feather!

Cat, noted. I’ll have to think of some other use for St Kylie’s feather. :huray:

Here's a Gypsy Gem that got damaged when I stood on it. I tried to straighten it up but it ended up worse so I made a new spool for it. It worked well even though it was a little bit heavier than it used to be.

While I'm digging out my Big Pikers, here's a Grice & Young rarity, from my small reel collection.

It is a pressed aluminium 2" checkless 'Boys Reel'.

According to Whiteadder's virtual fishing museum, it is probably the first reel produced by G&Y at their purpose-built premises in Christchurch. Likely dating from around 1946-7.

Some more pics of the G&Y Big Piker, as requested by Cat and Wanderer. :Hat:

I have the good fortune to own three.

I had my longest pike on one! At 47in - - but going back and skinny as a rake so weighed only 25lb.

Excellent for vane fishing - put the rod in the rest - set the drag so line coming off is slow - sit back and wait! :tea:

And Wal - that looks delightful!! A real Gem! :dancing:

I also have one of these early reels ( shown in an earlier post). Macman identified it as the “ Junia.” A fly reel.
