Selection of reels....
Well this weekend a kind gentleman gave me some old bits that were lying around and hoped I could put use to them. Included was a greenheart rod with a spliced in tip and a box of reels. Among the reels are a couple of closed face ones, one by Daiwa and many fixed spools. I'll get some pictures at the weekend and maybe some of you can help me identify them. I will use them, some of them look great. I think my favourite is the little green Penn one.....it looks very similar to the pic below, I think its a Spinfisher, as I said, I will get pictures of each of them over the weekend...

Re: Selection of reels....
Spinfisher was the name of a Woolworth's reel, I think there may have been a couple of versions. American in source, I suspect they were actually made in Japan, making them quite well travelled before they even got out of the box.

Right O....
The reel pictured above is lovely, has a bone handle and a surprisingly smooth clutch. Will certainly get a few outings this term. There is also an old looking cardnal in the box too.

Are you sure, Stu? In a reel of that period, it's almost certainly going to be some kind of plastic, surely? The Sweetcorn Kid wrote:The reel pictured above is lovely, has a bone handle .

Re: Selection of reels....
'They' came up with a plastic that immitated ivory so well the experts had to stick a red-hot pin in it to see if it melted its way in....if it did it was plastic.
I've just remembered there was also a Spinfisher II from Woolies.

Very nice SK, I bet your smile is ear to ear!
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.
