The Passionate Angler by Maurice Wiggin, first published 1949.
Another old book that I love, it's about time I read this one again.

I agree, an excellent read by a skilled 'wordsmith'. I liked that he begins by bemoaning the fact that even back then it was no longer feasible for a man to stroll out with an old rod for a quiet hour of an evening. Progressing to a stage where one detects a growing aversion to possibly harming the fish, he concludes with a short chapter which constitutes THE most erudite attempt at analysing the fishing 'gene' as superb a piece of writing as you will find anywhere in angling literature. An article in 'Waterlog' last year contained a letter M.W. wrote which confirms that his concience finally got the better of him and he gave up 'sport' fishing in the 60's

This book is one of my all time favourites, an absolute classic. If any of you haven't had the pleasure to read this, its well worth looking out for.
